Lakenham Hewett 20 - 29 Ravens

Lakenham Hewett 20 - 29 Ravens

Tash Berbank13 Jan 2020 - 19:07

Two from Two in 2020 ✌️

It really was a game of two halves yesterday when the Ravens headed up to Lakenham-Hewett for their next league game!

The Ravens opened up scoring early on with a fantastic break away try from winger Jemma Bello. And again exploiting the wings, it wasn’t long before Rosie Cocker, the opposite winger, found more space outside and ran in another try.

The home side however, realised the Ravens plan and made it much more difficult to get past on the outside. However, with strong forward runners, the Ravens crashed the ball up the middle of this pitch. With brute force, it wasn’t long before the Ravens were back under the posts with a hammering try from Lucy Bull.

Feeling confident, the Ravens became a bit sloppy and Lakenham crept up field. However, the ravens defence was excellent and held up a try over the line.

The home team began to give away several penalties and a yellow card soon saw the Ravens back in their opposition 22. Phase after phase, the Ravens crashed their way up field, with Rachel scoring her debut try for the Ravens at the end of the half. Rosie Cocker converted the kick to give the Ravens an extra two point.

As soon as the second half kicked off, Lucy Kerr found a space in the home team’s dog legged defence and scored a try under the posts. Rosie C added the two points to put the Ravens 29-0 up.

However, it wasn’t long before Lakenham Hewett came back with a vengeance. With strong running lines, excellent rucking at the breakdown and great reactions under pressure, they shocked the Ravens who were panicked under pressure. They ran in one, two, three and then four tries by the end of the game.

The Ravens did not give up and their continued defence made it difficult for the home side to score the extra try they needed to win the game.

Another bonus point win fills the Ravens with confidence for the rest of the season.

Forward of the match this week went to Rachel Taylor, for her excellent work in open play in her first full 80 minutes.

Back of the match this week went to Jennifer Hollins for her great defensive play and reactions on the ball!
